Supporting the Next Generation of Girls

At Lengishu, we believe that meaningful conservation goes hand in hand with empowering the communities around us. As a proud member of The Long Run, and certified as a Global Ecosphere Retreat®, our ethos is guided by the 4Cs: Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce. These four interconnected pillars shape every decision we make, ensuring that our presence on Borana Conservancy has a lasting, positive impact.

One of the ways we support our neighbouring communities is through initiatives that make a tangible difference. Earlier this year, Lengishu provided over 450 sanitary pad packets to more than 220 girls between the ages of 10 and 19 across three local schools – Arjiju Comprehensive, Lokirisia Comprehensive and Chumvi Secondary School, where 90 girls benefited from the distribution alone.

Access to menstrual products can have a direct impact on girls’ access to education, health and confidence. By helping to remove this barrier, Lengishu aims to ensure that more girls can attend school consistently, participate fully in class, and feel supported during their education.

While small in scale compared to the challenges many young women face, initiatives like this are a vital part of our wider commitment to the Community pillar of the 4Cs, championing local people and investing in the next generation.

This project is just one example of how tourism can be a force for good, creating a ripple effect that strengthens both communities and conservation.
