A Culture of Impact: Lengishu at The Long Run Virtual Impact Show 2025
Earlier this May, Ann, our sustainability coordinator, represented Lengishu at The Long Run Virtual Impact Show 2025, joining like-minded properties from around the world to share ideas, challenges and tangible progress across the 4Cs: Community, Conservation, Culture and Commerce.
As a GER®-accredited property since January 2024, it was a chance to spotlight the incredible work being done here at Lengishu – both by our team and with the support of our guests.
Building a Culture of Ownership
One of our key focuses this year has been creating a true culture of impact at every level. With 25 full-time staff (80% employed locally), we introduced Sustainability Champions – one person per department, selected monthly, to represent a different ‘C’ and lead the charge on awareness, collaboration, and in-house initiatives.
A Snapshot of Recent Impact
At the show, we shared a few highlights from recent months:
- A local sanitary pad project, now reaching 250+ girls across four primary schools which are part of The Borana Education Support Programme
- Guest-funded improvements at Ol Kinyei School, including housing, a kitchen, dining hall and furnishings
- The planting of 300 indigenous trees in our second Green Zone around the property, as part of reforestation efforts
All of this builds on Lengishu’s long-standing ethos: that responsible tourism has the power to empower and protect – when people feel part of the process.
Looking Ahead
Being part of The Long Run community keeps us inspired and accountable. We’re grateful to be among those pushing sustainability in travel forward, and excited to keep learning, adapting and sharing what we discover along the way.
